Gita Mahatmya (by Adi Sankara)

gita shastram idam punyam yah pathet prayatat puman
vishnoh padam avapnoti bhaya sokadi varjitah

When a person reads, recites or studies with proper attention this auspicious Shastra, Bhagavad gita, he will attain the feet of Sri Vishnu and will become free from free, worries and all other problems.

gitadhyayana-silasya pranayama parasya cha
naiva santi hi papani purva janma krtani cha

By meditating on Bhagavad gita with full attention and controlling oneā€™s life energy, one will become free from sin and from the reactions of the wrong actions performed during previous lifetimes.

malanir mochanam pumsam jala-snanam dine dine
sakrid gitambhasi snanam samsara-mala nasanam

One can become free from contamination by taking bath with water every day, but if one takes bath even once only in the sacred waters of Mother Gita, all the impurities of samsara are destroyed.

gita sugita kartavya kim anyah shastra vistaraih
ya svayam padmanabhasya mukha-padmad vinihsrita

The wonderful song called Bhagavad Gita has been spoken by the lotus mouth of the Lord Padmanabha himself. What other shastras we need to seek  then?

bharatamrita sarvasam vishnor vaktrad-vinihsritam
gita-gangodakam pitva punar janma na vidyate

One who drinks the sacred waters of the Ganga and t6he Gita, the nectarean cream of the Mahabharata, spoken directly by Sri Vishnu, will not have  to take another birth in the material world.

sarvopanishado gavo dogdha gopala-nandanah
partho vatsah sudhir bhokta dugdham gitamritam mahat

Comparing all the Upanishads as a cow, Krishna the son of the cowherd chief is the milkman, Arjuna the son of Pritha is the calf, and the intelligent  people will enjoy the great nectar of Bhagavad gita as the milk.

ekam shastram devaki-putra gitam eko devo devaki putra eva
eko mantras tasya namani yani karmapy ekam tasya devasya seva

Let there be one shastra only: the Gita of Krishna the son of Devaki. Let  there be one God only: Krishna the son of Devaki. Let there be one  mantra only: his holy names. Let there be one work only: service to that God.
